I started my quest to find the Best workout this morning. I chose a CrossFit workout at CDR Redlands. http://original.crossfitcdr.com/site/
Quick overview: I liked
it!
This was my first Crossfit workout class so I really have nothing to judge it by. The hubs is interested in crossfit so he joined me this morning and actually ended up signing up for a membership. When we entered the gym we were almost immediately greeted by the staff members and filled out paperwork and sent to warm up. It was a bit confusing starting the warm up because they tried to have a member help us but the owner came right over jumped in and got us warmed up.
They had a group circle to go over the mornings workout and many of the members came up and greeted us... seems like a friendly place to workout. Then we had one on one instructions on the exercises and joined the group. They divided the group by girls and guys and the girls started out paired up with a guy to watch them.
The craziest thing to me was how short the workouts are!! Each workout is only 8-17min. at a high intensity.
They started the timer and we did: 40 burpees jumping at the end and tapping a bar 6" above your head then right away we did 30 snatches - I have never done a snatch move so it was definitely challenging both in form and intensity - that ended round one - we then switched back to 30 burpees. How many rounds you complete will depend on how quickly you move through each exercise in the given amount of time. I added 20lbs to the 45lb bar and continued... however with the added weight I couldn't do the snatches properly and then the time ended. It definitely was a high intensity workout... sweat was pouring! Then it was the guys turn I thought I was going to have to do another set but I was actually done. I'm used to doing 1hr workouts so this is a change... but hey if you can get great results in 15min then cool. I know the afterburn effect is big these days so I'm assuming this type of workout has a high afterburn.
Crossfit is doing there open WOD (workout of the day) competition right now so all the crossfit gyms do the same workout log their times and then challenge each other.
There is definitely a lot going on with this type of gym. It seems like a community. The workouts are always changing so I'm guessing it wouldn't be boring.
I wasn't in love with today's workout but it was challenging so that was great. The gym said it was an abnormal workout today because of the challenge so I think I will go back next week and try a regular class. I'll add a update if I do.
So the nitty gritty:
Workout is not for the faint of heart... you are going to sweat!
Learning curve required - you start with classes to learn the proper moves
Staff was friendly and in shape
Gym was clean - could have been a bit tidier
Equipment looked good - seemed like they had a great selection - even huge tires outside (wonder what those are for?)
Members were friendly and modestly dressed
Fees are pretty high - but they were not pushy at all with signing up
Would I recommend this gym? Yes... I think it's a great place to be in a community of active people working out hard and enjoying it.

What my quest is all about
This is a brand new adventure I started today and I am on a quest to find the absolute BEST workout in the Redlands/Highland area. I'm currently a member of LA Fitness and I have been working out there for over two years. I mostly do:
Body Works
Bootcamp
Zumba
Plus every week I throw in at least one workout of free weights, yoga, laps or Spin.
There are tons of gyms in the area including almost every type of workout available. So a few months back I decided I will try them out... ALL of them. So I have put together a list of every gym I can find, so far, and I'm going to do a trial workout at each one and blog about my experience. I plan to include intensity level of the workout - how knowledgeable and fit the staff are - plus how friendly of an environment it is - price - cleanliness and equipment.
* disclaimer * This is strictly going to be my point of view and may or may not be the view of anyone else working out there.
Why am I doing this? For fun!!!! And it's free!!! At the end of my quest I will decide if I will continue to workout at LA Fit or if I will join a new gym... we will see.
How long will it take? I'm giving myself a 3-4 month time frame to visit every gym and complete each workout. I will be visiting 2 or so gyms a week along with some of my regular classes at LA Fit.
What kind of gyms? I am going to visit MMA, Crossfit and Kickboxing gyms as well as Zumba, Curves and Yoga plus everything in between.
I thought it would be fun to share my experience with you -
